On Saturday 8th September over 40 people were educated and entertained at
the wonderful Cotswold home of Gay Gottlieb for the fourth annual HVC
Seminar. During her introduction Gay mentioned that she had a bitch whelping
in the adjoining kennel and by the end of the day Chant had proudly produced
8 puppies with just regular updates form Sara Barnard who kept an eye on the
proceedings.
This year the theme was a guide to understanding the working Vizsla, with
Andy Cullen - a Professional Gundog Trainer - the first to speak on
Intermediate level training. Andy had already completed four training
sessions on vizslas during the summer and his talk complemented these,
showing the way forward and reinforcing the lessons learned.
Chris Guest - known for her HWV and a Spinoni - enlightened the listeners
with an explanation of what the working language was really saying and
demisting the jargon.

Mrs Chris Guest
The first speaker of the afternoon usually has the hardest task but this was
not so for Valerie and Seth Anthony, from the International Falconer, whose
video of introducing their young vizslas to a hawk was spellbinding. This
was followed by a video of falconers flying their birds and photos of dogs
used from around the world. Both Seth and Valerie were bombarded by
questions making it quite difficult to persuade people that they really must
have a pause before our last speaker who was Jennifer Hurley.
Jennifer has owned Vizslas for over 10 years last year took on a GSP. She
enlightened us as to just what are the differences and similarities, of the
two breeds, both entertaining and educating us with her knowledge and
experiences.
Rosemary and Graham Frost once again spoilt us with Lancashire Hot Pot,
Chilli and Sausage & Mash, followed by Bakewell tart and Blackberry & Apple
pie and then, at tea time, filled any corners left with lashings of
Raspberry Sponge and Lemon Drizzle cake. Everyone left with folders filled
with KC documents, free copies of Sporting Shooter and also International
Falconer, together with many up-to-date gundog publications
A great day was had by all and already the emails are pouring in and we are
planning next years extravaganza. Our thanks to all who spoke for us, those
who provided the free gifts, Graham and Rosemary for their wonderful food,
the speakers and to all those who stayed at the end and helped deconstruct
the site. Especially, big thanks to Gay Gottlieb for allowing us to use her
home and congratulations to Chant on the arrival of her new family.
